Passover in Marrakech, Agadir and Mazagan

Over thirty-five years Sarah Tours has run Passover programmes across Morocco — on the Atlantic at Mazagan and Agadir, and inland at Marrakech. Each has a different climate, a different rhythm and a different kind of guest. Here is how they compare, and where our 2027 programmes are.

Passover at the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort

Mazagan sits on the Atlantic about ninety kilometres south of Casablanca, near El Jadida. Sarah Tours ran Passover at the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort for many consecutive years, and it remains the property our returning families ask about most often.

Its appeal is scale. A single enclosed estate holds the beach, the golf course, the pools and the function rooms, which means a large multi-generational group can spread out without anyone leaving the property. For a family travelling with grandparents and small children in the same booking, that matters more than almost anything else. Casablanca Mohammed V is the arrival airport, roughly an hour and a quarter by road.

The trade-off is the Atlantic itself. In April the ocean is bracing and the wind can be strong in the afternoon. Guests who picture swimming every day are usually happier on the Mediterranean.

Passover in Agadir

Agadir is further south again, and it is the most reliable sunshine in Morocco over the Passover window. A long crescent bay, a flat promenade and a run of large beach resorts make it easy for families who want the holiday to be mostly outdoors. Agadir Al Massira handles direct flights from several European cities, so transfers are short.

Two honest caveats. The water is Atlantic, so it is cold for swimming in April even when the air is warm. And Agadir was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, so it is a modern resort city rather than a historic one — if Jewish heritage sites are what you have come for, you will be making day trips rather than walking to them.

Passover in Marrakech

Marrakech is the opposite proposition: inland, historic, and busy. Sarah Tours has run Passover programmes here in the past, and it is the strongest destination in the country for heritage. The mellah is intact, the Miaara Jewish cemetery and the Slat al-Azama synagogue are both visitable, and the Atlas mountains are close enough for a proper Chol Hamoed excursion.

The constraint is heat. Late April in Marrakech regularly reaches the high twenties and can go further, which is demanding across eight days of Yom Tov and Chol Hamoed with young children. For 2027 we think Marrakech works best as a Chol Hamoed excursion or a post-Passover extension rather than as the base for the whole holiday.

Where Sarah Tours runs Passover in 2027

Our 2027 programmes are both on the northern Mediterranean coast, between Tangier and Tetouan, where April temperatures are mild and the sea is calm: Banyan Tree Tamouda Bay, a five-star resort of private-pool villas, and Marina Smir Hotel & Spa, a four-star marina property at a more accessible price. Both run under the supervision of the Beth Din of Casablanca, strictly no kitniyot, with the Sarah Tours culinary team in the kitchen.

Marrakech, Agadir and Mazagan remain available to our guests as private extensions and custom kosher trips before or after the programme. If you specifically want a Passover programme based in one of those cities, tell us — we will be straight with you about what we can and cannot deliver for 2027.

Choosing between the coast and the interior

A simple way to decide. If the priority is swimming and calm water, choose the Mediterranean. If the priority is guaranteed sun and a long beach, the Atlantic at Agadir. If the priority is Jewish heritage and excursions, build the holiday around Marrakech or Fes. If the priority is keeping a large family together on one estate, Mazagan is the model, and Banyan Tree Tamouda Bay is its closest equivalent in our 2027 line-up.

Frequently asked

Does Sarah Tours run a Passover programme in Marrakech?

We have run Passover programmes in Marrakech in previous years. For 2027 our two programmes are on the northern Mediterranean coast, and Marrakech is offered as a Chol Hamoed excursion or a post-Passover extension rather than as the base for the full holiday.

Does Sarah Tours run Passover in Agadir?

Agadir has been part of our programme history and remains available as a custom kosher trip or an extension. Our 2027 Passover programmes are at Banyan Tree Tamouda Bay and Marina Smir Hotel & Spa on the Mediterranean coast.

Did Sarah Tours run Passover at the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort?

Yes. Sarah Tours ran Passover at the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort near El Jadida for many consecutive years. For 2027 we have moved the programme to the northern Mediterranean coast, where April sea and air temperatures suit families better.

Which Moroccan destination is best for Passover with young children?

The Mediterranean coast. Sea temperatures are milder than the Atlantic, the water is calmer for swimming, and both 2027 properties run supervised kids clubs through the holiday.
